Don't Become a Realtor for the Money, It Will Eat You Alive

Ian Watt : Hi good afternoon! It's Ian Watt in Downtown Vancouver. I got a twit yesterday from a guy whose thinking about getting into the business. "Any suggestions, Ian or any advice?" And I twitted back " that's great get into the business. Don't get into it for the the money or you'll be eaten alive". This is a very difficult business to be in and if you're just thinking about the dollar bills, you're not gonna do all that well. The top ten percent of all the realtors that do all the business really have a passion for the industry and what they do. I love my job. If I won a hundred million of dollars, I'd still go back to work tomorrow. I love it that much. I have a ton of passion for everything we do and my goals wouldn't change at all if I won that money. Because my goals are not about dollar bills. Of course, dollar bills help because without profits you're business is not gonna stay alive. Like profits are like oxygen to people, profits are for business it's the same thing. Maybe I can't say it is eloquently but the whole purpose of your business is not money. The whole purpose of life is not oxygen. But without it, you can't survive. So that's one thing to remember but like people like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, they don't do their job for the money. They do it cause they love it and the money comes so that's very important because you know what? Sure we can make 10 or 20 thousand dollars on an end but if you're only doing one every 6 months, what good is that? You might as well work at safely, punch in, punch out with no responsibility whatsoever. So don't get into this business with dollar bills in your eyes. You'll be dead soon.
