Current Update
Construction of the Hillcrest Curling Facility is now underway! A colourful groundbreaking ceremony attended by an audience of over 200 residents on Friday, February 23, 2007 officially kicked off "the throwing of the first rock" on a special facsimile curling sheet created by Park Board staff.

Park Board Chair Ian Robert son was joined at the podium by MP David Emerson, Premier Gordon Campbell, Mayor Sam Sullivan, Chief Leah George and Jack Poole, Chair of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). The speakers all donned Scottish tams along with guest Curlers from the nearby Vancouver Curling Club who represented all ages and abilities during the ceremonial throw.

The event was capped by an Active Communities Vancouver walk around the perimeter of Hillcrest Park by 60 students from nearby General Wolfe Elementary School . The City and Park Board have accepted the challenge, along with the rest of the Province, to increase physical activity 20% by 2010 to become the most active city to ever host the Olympics!

Post Olympic Facility Use
Post Olympics the curling venue will convert to the new Riley Park Community Centre, library, Vancouver Curling Club and public ice rink. To make the most of construction efficiencies, the new Percy Norman Pool will be built at the same time. An indoor concourse will connect the facilities with the new pool featuring a leisure tank, 50 meter lap pool and an outdoor aquatic element.
