Don't Forget About the Fire Alarm Inspection in Your Vancouver Condo

Ian Watt video blogs about how in some cases if you don't get your sprinkler and your fire alarm system inspected within your Vancouver condo, you can be fined by the strata as well as you may not be covered by your insurance. If you want to voice your opinion or if you don't care for Ian's comments please email your feedback to ianwatt@ianwatt.ca and visit http://www.ianwatt.ca/RealEstateVideos for all the Ian Watt Real Estate Video Blogs.

Ian Watt: Hi Good Afternoon, it's Ian Watt in Downtown Vancouver. Once a year every strata has to go through this. You have to open your doors and let the fire inspector companies come in. They check out to see if the sprinklers are operations on make sure that the fire smoke detectors etc. etc., are up to go and up to standard and up to operation as well. Now its very difficult for the property managers to make sure that they can get in to every property and that's because some people don't see their notices, a lot of tenants don't see their notices or don't care about their notices. So what's very important is that you make sure you were there were hand over the keys to the manager so that they can get in there. A lot of buildings are giving everybody a one shot if they don't show up they have to do it on the second shot. If they don't do it then they have to a fine of $250 to bring out the company one more time. Very interesting but the most interesting thing is - if you don't get this inspection your fire insurance might not cover you.  You might wanna look in to this talk to your property manager, talk to the building manager, talk to your insurance company about this. Make sure if they're doing an inspection you were there or you make sure your property is open and if its a tenanted property make sure you keep up to date on whats going on strata. My name is Ian Watt and if you have any questions. You can always email me at ianwatt@ianwatt.ca. Thank you very much and have a great day!
